Jamdani weave is a traditional technique of fabric weaving, primarily known from Bangladesh and West Bengal, India. It's a highly skilled form of handloom weaving that is recognised for its intricate patterns woven onto fine muslin.
Jamdani is distinguished by its labor-intensive process of adding supplementary weft threads in addition to the standard weft. This creates the ornate motifs that appear to float on the surface of the fabric, giving Jamdani its distinctive quality.
Due to the time and skill required to produce Jamdani, it is considered one of the most advanced hand weaving techniques in the world and has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Established in 2004, Fair Go Trading continues to work with Fair Trade groups - now for almost 20 years. They have brought to market thousands of handmade artisan products to Australia and New Zealand, supporting artisan families in developing nations.
